Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) opens TradeCraft with a reception March 9, 2023. The exhibition features works by alumni of the college’s visual communication programs over the last 20 years, and describes the skills, methods and applied sciences utilized within creative trades and industries.
The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted in the Bill Ford Gallery from 5-6:30 p.m. The gallery is located in PSAD’s 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street.
“Everyone on exhibit in this show is either a graduate of a visual communication program or took the classes they needed to upskill and kick-start a career,” said Drew Johnson, exhibit organizer and artist.
“Several of the people I knew from the Visual Communication program had started to branch out and build on their skills,” said Johnson. He explained one artist took the Photoshop skills he learned and began designing and screen-printing posters. He added that another artist who graduated from the program became a tattoo artist and sells prints of his work as well. “The list goes on and on,” Johnson said.
Participating artists in the TradeCraft exhibition are Dustin Clark, Mark Emmons, Andrew Evitts, Daniela (Dany) Govea, Randall Griggs, Rachel (Morgan) Hall, Adam Harper, Seth Hawkins, Courtney Jeffries, Drew Johnson, Nathan Lawson, Shelby Preklas, Morgan Siebert, and Cayla Winchester.
“There are many fantastic graphic artists who have studied within a visual communications program, but we also have graduates who are accomplished in other digital media, like audio/video and animation so we want them included,” said Emily Esau, WKCTC Visual Communication program coordinator.
The exhibition will remain on display through April 13. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
