WKCTC's Paducah School of Art and Design opens Danielle Mužina exhibition October 27.

Oct 21, 2022

West Kentucky Community and Technical College’s Paducah School of Art and Design opens Red Weather, Pink Weather, an exhibition of paintings by Danielle Mužina with a reception October 27, 2022. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted in the Bill Ford Gallery from 5-6:30 p.m.. The gallery is located in PSAD’s 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street. The artist will also present a gallery talk, discussing the works on display at 11:30 a.m., November 17.

Danielle Mužina is an artist and educator originally from Cleveland, Ohio, now teaching at Murray State University. She received her B.F.A at Ohio Wesleyan University, her M.A. at Eastern Illinois University, and her M.F.A. at Miami University. Mužina’s work has been shown at numerous galleries nationally, including First Street Gallery and Prince Street Gallery in New York, NY, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, GA, and Verum Ultimum Gallery in Portland, OR. Mužina makes paintings that explore place, identity and crisis, inspired by her experiences as a member of a family that immigrated from Croatia.

Mužina states, “To me, the process of painting these narratives at the domestic edge is a threshold for exploring personal and collective meaning and responsibility. My immigrant grandmother, reflecting on witnessing national traumas in our home of former Yugoslavia, tells me ‘to pay attention when the sky’s bleeding even if someone tells you it’s not.’ The paintings grapple with the roles figures play actively or inactively, together or divided, in both causing and addressing the crisis at hand. I continue to have faith that the process of painting can serve a threshold for making sense of both our interior worlds and our relationships to exterior forces.”

The exhibition will remain on display through December 8, 2022. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College’s Paducah School of Art and Design offers an associate in fine arts degree in visual art and an associate in applied science degree and certificate programs in visual communication: multimedia, as well as studio art classes for students of all levels and disciplines. Classes are offered on WKCTC’s campus; at 905 Harrison Street; and at 919 Madison Street.
