PSAD Summer 2021 Community Education classes for Youth

WKCTC's Paducah School of Art and Design is pleased to announce its PSAD Summer 2021 Community Education classes for Youth ages 8-13.

The safety and health of WKCTC students, faculty and staff is a top priority. Physical distancing, face coverings, and hand washing will continue to be required at WKCTC.

Clay for Kids AGES 8-13 (2 afternoons)

May 15 and 16; 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. OR

June 12 and 13; 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m

Cost: $48 (includes studio supplies and firing of the pieces)

PSAD Ceramics/Small Metals Building, 919 Madison Street, Lower Town

Instructor: Anne Beyer, PSAD adjunct ceramics instructor

Explore the possibilities of clay in a day! Students will practice basic handbuilding skills that include coiling, slab building, pinching, and free forming. Students will decorate their clay creations with brightly colored low-fire underglazes and finished works will be available to pick-up the following week. Face masks are required.

 

Woodturning AGES 8-13

May 15 and 16,12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Cost: $120 (includes supplies and studio fee).

PSAD Sculpture Building, 919 Madison Street

Instructor: Wyatt Severs, wood worker and PSAD Studio Technician

In this class we will learn the fundamentals of woodturning. After learning the basic techniques, we will apply these skills in the making of mallets. We will end the course with the creation of a stool. Each student will design their own shapes and learn how to attach the different elements using a mortise and tenon joint. Face masks are required.

 

Furniture Building AGES 8-13

June 9, 10, and 11, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Cost: $145 (includes supplies and studio fee)

PSAD Sculpture Building, 919 Madison Street

Instructor: Wyatt Severs, wood worker and PSAD studio technician

This class will begin with discussing the characteristics of wood from seed to lumber. Students will create sketches and scale drawings of their own piece of furniture and learn now to properly and safely use basic hand tools. We will cover techniques of joinery for building simple to complex structures paired with surface embellishments of painting techniques to finish our pieces with style and comfort! Face masks are required.
